Podiatry and Foot Care

What is podiatry?

Podiatric Medicine encompasses the treatment and correction of various foot and ankle ailments by surgical and non-surgical approaches. Podiatrists are highly trained foot doctors that diagnose and treat foot problems. Drs. Thaker, La Puma, and Franchini are all licensed to practice podiatry in New York and have flexible appointment times at our two Foot Care of New York locations.

What is a podiatrist?

podiatrist, or a doctor in podiatric medicine, is a specialist who provides medical diagnosis and treatment of foot and ankle problems, including, but not limited to:

In addition to undergraduate medical school training, podiatrists also attend graduate school for a doctorate degree in podiatry. Podiatrists are required to take state and national exams.  Foot Care of New York have received the highest training and are licensed to practice podiatry in the State of New York. 

When to call the doctor

You should make an appointment with a podiatrist at Foot Care of New York if you experience:

  • Persistent pain in your feet or ankles
  • Noticeable change to your nails or skin
  • Feet that are severely cracked, scaling, or peeling
  • Blisters on your feet
  • Signs of bacterial infection, including increased pain, swelling, redness, tenderness, or heat 
  • Symptoms that do not improve after two weeks of treatment with a non-prescription product
  • Any foot infection appears to be spreading to other areas, such as the nail bed, or skin under the nail, the nail itself, or the surrounding skin
  • A toenail that is getting thicker and causing discomfort
  • Heel pain accompanied by a fever, redness (sometimes warmth), numbness or tingling in your heel, or persistent pain without putting any weight or pressure on your heel, or the pain is not alleviated by ice, aspirin, (or ibuprofen or acetaminophen)
  • Diabetes or certain diseases associated with poor circulation and you develop athlete's foot. People with diabetes are at increased risk for a severe bacterial infection of the foot and leg if they have athlete's foot.

The Seventh Avenue office is a few doors down from Penn Station. Hours in each location vary, so we can accommodate our patient's diverse scheduling needs.
