Preparing for Foot Surgery

The highly trained surgical staff associated with Foot Care of New York has years of expertise in providing positive patient experiences. We offer the following Patient Information to help you prepare for your surgery. Remember; do not hesitate to call us at (212) 661-3300with any questions or concerns about the preparation for your foot or ankle surgery.

PATIENT INFORMATION

Preparing for Your Surgery

  1. The surgical center staff will ask you questions about your health to assist them in preparing for your foot or ankle surgery.
  2. Depending on the nature/type of your podiatric surgery and the type of anesthesia, additional testing may be needed.
  3. If you require any sedation for your surgery, a friend or family member must drive you home after the procedure. The surgery center associated with Foot Care of New York provides complimentary car service on the day of your surgery to your home no matter where you live.  Patients opting for our complimentary car service must still have another person accompany them.

On the Day/Night Before Your Foot or Ankle Surgery

  1. The day before your scheduled surgery, one of the surgery center staff will call you and tell you the time to arrive at the surgery center. Have a list of all medications that you presently take, both prescription and non-prescription. Include a list of any allergies that you have. If you do not receive a call from the surgery center staff by 2 PM the day prior to your scheduled surgery, please call our office at 212-661-3300.
  2. Do not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before your scheduled surgery. This includes chewing gum, candy, mints and/or water.

On the Day of Your Foot or Ankle Surgery

  1. You may bathe or shower and brush your teeth prior to coming to the surgery center, however, do not swallow any water when rinsing your mouth.
  2. Bring your insurance information, including any cards, papers or identifying numbers.
  3. Bring a case for your eyeglasses/contact lenses because you may not be allowed to wear them into surgery.
  4. It is advised to wear loose and comfortable clothing.
  5. It is suggested that only one person accompanies you.
  6. Do not wear make-up, nail polish, hairpins or hairclips.
  7. Do not wear jewelry.
  8. Do not bring large amounts of cash or valuables.
