The Day of Your Foot Surgery

The compassionate surgical staff associated with Foot Care of New York is prepared to provide you with superior patient care before, during, and after your foot or ankle surgery. We offer the following Patient Information to help you prepare for your surgery. Do not hesitate to call our office (212) 661-3300 or the surgical center in New York City at (212) 327-2919 with your questions or concerns about preparation for foot or ankle surgery.

Preparation on the Day of Your Foot or Ankle Surgery

  1. You may bathe or shower and brush your teeth prior to coming to the surgery center, however, do not swallow any water when rinsing your mouth.
  2. Bring your insurance information, including any cards, papers or identifying number.
  3. Bring a case for your eyeglasses/contact lenses because you may not be allowed to wear them into surgery.
  4. It is advised to wear loose and comfortable clothing.
  5. It is suggested that only one person accompany you.
  6. Do not wear make-up, nail polish, hairpins or hairclips.
  7. Do not wear jewelry.
  8. Do not bring large amounts of cash or valuables.

At the Surgery Center

Your foot or ankle surgery wil be performed by the licensed podiatrists from Foot Care of New York. At Foot Care of New York, our doctors have surgical privileges at state-of-the-art ambulatory surgery centers.

  1. Upon arriving at the surgical center, please check in with the friendly receptionist to announce your arrival.
  2. At that time, the receptionist may request your insurance information so a copy can be made.
  3. You will be asked to either wait in the reception area, or you will be escorted into the pro-operative area.
  4. In the pre-operative area, you will be given further instructions and will be asked to change into a surgery gown.
  5. At the appropriate time, you will be greeted by the surgery team and escorted to the operating room.
  6. After your procedure, you will be taken to the recovery area.

After you have recovered from you anesthesia, the nurse will provide you with detailed post-operative home care instructions.
